Turf laying terms
These terms apply when we prepare and turf your garden, including any paving you ask us to include. Your written quote and these terms form our agreement.
Last updated 24 October 2026
1. Your quote
We price your garden from the details you give us (size, access, what's there now) and anything we see if we visit. It lists each part of the work, for example clearing, ground preparation, topsoil, levelling, supplying and laying turf, and taking waste away. Any paving is shown as its own item. Prices include VAT, and the quote says how long it stays valid.
Buried builders' rubble and extra topsoil are priced as separate items where they're needed. If the garden turns out to be materially different from what was described or could reasonably be seen, such as more buried rubble, a bigger area or harder access, we'll explain the difference and agree any extra cost with you before carrying on.
2. Deposit and payment
To book, accept your quote and pay a deposit of £100. The deposit secures your date and comes off the final amount.
The balance is due on the day the work begins. Turf, topsoil, slabs and other materials stay ours until they're paid for in full.
3. Your right to cancel
Because this agreement is made online, by phone or away from our premises, you can cancel within 14 days of accepting your quote without giving a reason. To cancel, email info@turfingnortheast.co.uk or write to us at the address at the end of these terms.
Want the work to start inside the 14 days? We'll need you to confirm that in writing. If you then cancel before work starts, you pay only the costs already committed for your garden, for example turf cut for your date or materials bought in. After work starts on site, the full price is due.
You can use this wording if you wish: "I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the garden and turf laying work at [address], which I accepted on [date]. [Your name, your address, signature if sent on paper, date.]"
4. Changing or cancelling after 14 days
If you need a different date, tell us as early as you can and we'll arrange another one, carrying your deposit across. If you cancel after the 14-day period, the deposit is kept towards our costs, and any turf or materials already ordered for you are charged for.
5. Dates and weather
Dates are agreed in good faith. Waterlogged, frozen or baked-hard ground, problems with materials, or an earlier job running over can mean moving your date. If that happens we'll tell you and offer the next suitable day. Most gardens are finished within a day, though bigger gardens, paving or ground needing heavy work can mean more time.
6. Access and underground services
We need safe access to the garden, space close by for unloading and an outside tap. If your back garden can only be reached through the house or garage, or the estate has site rules on access or parking, please tell us when you ask for your quote.
Please tell us about, and mark where you can, any underground pipes, cables, drains, soakaways or other services in the work area. Damage to hidden services we weren't made aware of, and couldn't reasonably have spotted, isn't our responsibility.
7. Turf, topsoil and paving materials
Turf and topsoil are natural products and slabs are made or quarried in batches, so colour and texture can vary between batches and seasons. Freshly harvested turf can have the odd torn edge; that's a normal part of cutting it fresh and isn't a fault. If something on your quote isn't available, we may use an equivalent of similar quality and will tell you before we do.
Where paving is included, its position, size and slab choice are as set out in your quote. Changes requested on the day are agreed with you, including any change in price, before they're made.
8. Aftercare
New turf needs plenty of regular watering until it has rooted, and we'll give you advice on watering and the first mow. Once it's laid, how well turf establishes depends on things outside our control, including watering, weather, soil and use, so we can't guarantee that it will take.
Spot a problem? Send us photos promptly and we'll help however we reasonably can.
9. Photos
We may take before and after photos for our records and to show examples of gardens. We keep the focus on the garden rather than on people, door numbers or number plates. Tell us if you'd rather your photos weren't used in our marketing.
10. Responsibility
We carry out the work with reasonable care and skill. If we cause loss or damage, we're responsible for loss that was a foreseeable result of a breach of these terms or a lack of reasonable care on our part. We aren't liable for loss that couldn't have been foreseen, for problems caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for business losses.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. None of this affects your statutory rights.
11. Questions or concerns
If you're unhappy with any part of the work, please raise it with us first so we have the chance to put it right. English law applies to these terms, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
